About
As humans face a world never seen before, they have turned to four-legged friends as a way to console, bringing harmony and peace to their homes. In fact, dog adoptions are hitting record highs over the past year, with some cities reporting a 90% rise in adoption rates. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and sometimes more pooches can cause more problems. Many rescue dogs can come from a troubled past resulting in unknown trust issues, which can be difficult for new owners. Cesar Millan: Better Human Better Dog showcases Cesar Millan as he takes on the most challenging cases yet, treating a host of new canine behavioral issues impacted by well-intentioned but impulsive owners.

Don't Blame The Breed
Sat, 31 Aug· 60 minBetty is sweet, cuddly, and happy, until someone picks up a towel, broom, vacuum, or laundry basket. In this episode of Better Human Better Dog, everything changes. Her eyes lock in, her body stiffens, and she goes into a dangerous fixation that Will and Steven cannot interrupt. They thought Betty was only attacking objects, not people. But when a dog bites the object in your hand, the risk is still real. When I meet Betty, I see that this is not just a strange cleaning problem. Her pet parents are unknowingly building the behavior. Excited greetings put Betty into a heightened state of mind. Then, when the broom or towel appears, they pull it away, create a tug-of-war, and comfort her afterward. Without realizing it, they are rewarding the fixation they want to stop. Betty's brother Bruno shows the difference. He is also a pit mix, but he is more balanced. When Betty becomes fixated, Bruno tries to interrupt her instinctively. But Betty is too deep in the trance to receive his correction.

Love Bites
Sat, 31 Aug· 60 minKim has not been able to bring a man into her home in years. Her rescue dog Dilly has already bitten five people, and she is terrified that the next time could cost someone an injury, or cost Dilly his life. In this episode of Better Human Better Dog, I meet Kim and her two rescue dogs, Dilly and Sweet Pea, and I see the pattern in seconds. Before a man even reaches the door, Kim tightens the leash, stiffens her body and braces for trouble. Dilly reads that tension as an instruction: protect her, protect the apartment. What looks like territorial aggression toward men begins with what is travelling down the leash. The real work starts when Kim tells me where her fear comes from. Through pack walks, leash work, door exercises and calm, repeated introductions, she has to learn to lead in the one place Dilly's behavior is strongest, which is home.
